My name is Chris and I'm the owner of Free State Photography and Design.  My business is based in Gardner, KS and serves the greater Kansas City metro area and the surrounding counties.
 
I started Free State Photography and Design in 2007.  It all started with engagement photos.  At least, that's how the business started.  My passion for photography began long before that.
 
I've always used photography as a form of expression.  I didn't pursue a formal education in photography or journalism, as is often the case in this profession.  My photography education happened over the course of many years while attempting to capture life's experiences in a way that would express what I was feeling in a particular moment.
 
For me, that's what photography is all about...capturing moments.  Whatever it is about a particular scene or event that compelled me to stop and take notice--that's what I want to express through my photographs.
 
So, what about the, "Design," in "Free State Photography and Design?"
 
I came into this business from a background in Web programming and design.  I've worked on Web projects where I was solely responsible for all aspects of development, as well as other, larger projects where I functioned as part of a development team.
 
In a team of developers I will typically be tasked with designing the graphic elements of a site.  This type of creative role is something I look forward to and I take pride in the products of my work.
 
I named my business Free State Photography and Design because I believe the two go hand-in-hand.  Photography is a creative process.  The act of capturing an image involves composition, lighting and a number of other inputs that help to shape the end result.  However, a photograph can also be a starting point for a much larger vision.  That's where good design can have a significant impact on photographic products.
 
Or, maybe you're not interested in photography at all.  Maybe you need a Web site, or a logo.  I can also do that.
